Father’s Day

A man
without a family
is by no accounts
a father
just as I am
without
my daughter
and likewise
not a man

– A. Ramirez

There’s a point in your life when you finally begin to understand what love is – that it’s selfless and boundless. And that nothing compares to the pain of being away from your child. Some things poetry just doesn’t have enough words for.

Submariner

If I had a fish
for a daughter
I would hope that her fins
were swift and true
and I would remind her,

“Swim to your hearts content
but avoid the fisherman’s hook
and the jaws of those unkindly bites”

– A. Ramirez

It breaks my heart to see so many young women struggling with life. I wonder where their fathers are. Why must men act so selfishly and be so cruel? Be good to our women. Be good to each other.

Strange Perspectives

Don’t think too much
because the road can go left or right
and you can be happy or sad
but if you must go straight ahead
try not to be so predictable and pedestrian in your motions
invest in strange perspectives while
trying to avoid the tragedy of the blind turn

– A. Ramirez

be a poet and you’ll understand magic from the inside out
