California Punk

“I can’t help but be reminded that there is a certain feeling, a feeling of liberation, which accompanies the road. The sense of being between two worlds, of here and of there. And once the destination is reached something is lost, some freedom, some proportion of the potential that was experienced between the here and the there. I thought about California as it receded in our rear view mirror. There were images, memories; but these quickly lost their vividness and became less tangible the further we drove. There was nothing but desert now. Cacti and dirt and mountain ridges.”
