Sunflower in January

The days have
Turned gray

Or is it brown
Like the trees?

And I suppose
I am fortunate enough
To have found you
Now
Among an
Arcade of flowers

Your face set wide
Adorned with a hundred petals
As if with a hundred thoughts

And I will
Imagine you
Smiling

Yellow
Under
A yellow sun

Good weather
Is on the way

Or so they say

And it
Will find you
In bloom

Roots set, head
Held high, the personality
Of a sunflower

Strange and imperfect

Rising up
In the
January air
