Love, No Love

And now I know
that I am a terrible person

because you have told
me so a hundred times over

and now I know that I never loved you

because you have told
me so hundred times even more

what I am is a liar
who I am is the person
who destroyed your life

I’m disgusting
I’m horrible
I’m selfish
I’m immature
I’m irresponsible

I’m deserving only of a thousand knives to stab at my body
and a thousand steel pins to bleed out my soul, rotten and sick
as it must be – a vile congregation of animal parts
and animal wants

– A. Ramirez

All my love has ever accomplished is to destroy those it touches.

Spider

Dear spider in the house
please find your way outside
and if you could avoid
that thing you do with your teeth
or crawling over my sleeping face
that also would be appreciated;

things are getting better you see
so please don’t make a killer out of me
I’ve murdered enough good things in my life

I’m looking forward to returning to goodness
and your six legs and spidery webs
keep catching me up and
bringing the worst out of me

– A. Ramirez

I love writing poems that have nothing to do with love or heartbreak. Poems that deal with everyday things. Take the mundane and make them poetic.

Heavy Metal

And now a heavy bottom
for such heavy wants
but if you love me
you would not touch me
as you have
and then go lay elsewhere
leaving me locked here
with such heavy thoughts

All Night

All night
you would
have me think of you;
like an impetuous dream
among the waking light;
you – that trampling thought
that wears such heavy boots;
that restless feeling
that refuses to lie still beside me;
all night you would dance
and wiggle your hips
and expose your breasts to me;
all night you would have me love you
and refuse me sleep
or even the simple comfort
of speaking to me

how to be a good poet

I recommend at least three beers before noon
to keep you brave
and masturbate habitually
so as to keep the sex drive from becoming a distraction
you don’t want to spread your energies too thin
read Plato’s Republic
and Spinoza’s Ethics
gorge yourself on a diet of music
cultivate something resembling a soul
go to the beach
or to the mountains
go some place
any place
where man has yet to desecrate
and observe how the animals get through life
unconcerned by concepts such as equality, justice,
fairness, guilt, shame
then go spend some time
in a thick pack of people
smell them
study them
take them in
watch how wonderful they are
and how sad they are
how lonely
and lost
like apes not quite fully formed

forget about writing
focus on other things
kill your gods
reject your politicians
deny your masters
refuse all laws

then
when the words come
they will have power
and they will
be more than words
